Work starts on new Lidl store

News / 13 May 2017

Work has began on a brand new Lidl store in Stockton . The Blakeston Lane branch will create 40 new jobs when it opens in early 2018.

“There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start the build,” said David Murphy, Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property,

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

Stockton Council granted planning permission for the scheme in March. The development is being undertaken by Leeds based GMI Property and as well as the Lidl store will provide 80 much needed new homes.

It will be Lidl’s 650th store, and the company hopes to one day have 1,500 UK stores.

Lidl was crowned ‘Best Supermarket 2016’ by readers of Good Housekeeping, and has seen sales soar in recent years.
